Sunday Thoughts: Weed or the Word

I came home from church and started to scroll on Facebook and came across a post that I thought was rather interesting. The post was about if it’s okay to smoke (weed) while watching a church service online. My immediate thought was “why would you want to do that” but then I decided to ponder on this a little longer.

Many of us find ourselves in very interesting situations as we still try an attend church but are faced with COVID19. Because we are watching online, we now have access to so many different things that we never would have if we were attending church. For instance, TV, food , our boo and of course our comfy beds. While having access to our kitchens and beds are great, we must not forget the reason why we are watching. Our sole purpose is to continually connect with God and hear from him on what he wants for us to do. If outside sources have our attention, then those things serve as nothing more than a distraction from what we are originally supposed to be doing. If we take it a little farther, we could ask the question “Who is on truly on the throne of our hearts?”

When I think about the Bible I immediately think of Mary and Martha. In the story Mary sat at Jesus’s feet and listened while Martha was in the kitchen preparing a meal. Martha was so concerned and distracted with preparing this physical meal (actual food) that she completely missed the true eternal meal (spiritual food) which was Jesus. Let us all remember to stay connected to Jesus and stay away from distractions. Whether it’s weed, TV or even you significant other, let nothing take your focus away from God.

Luke 10:38-42

“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.””
