Follow Gods Lead

Growing up in my household my parents would always give me instructions on how to do something or people or things to stay away from. As I grew older these instructions my parents gave me helped me navigate throughout my life. Like our earthly parents, God often gives each one of us instructions for our daily lives. The funny thing is Gods instructions often sound similar to our parents. “Stay away from this place, stay away from this person or do this or that”. No matter the instruction, God gives us these things to help us walk towards our destiny.

In 1 Kings Ch. 13 there was a prophet from Judah who God sent to Bethel. He was given instructions to not stay or eat with anyone in the town after he said what the Lord wanted him to say. After the word the prophet gave the King, he was invited to go back and eat with the King. Remembering what God told him he quickly declined. Some time later and old “prophet” found him and insisted on bringing him to his house. He even used the line “I heard from God myself”. The prophet of Judah believed him and went to his house for something to eat. While they ate the Word of the Lord came and told the prophet of Judah that he was disobedient and that he would die. Fast forward to after dinner. The prophet of Judah leaves and is then killed by a lion.

This message isn’t to scare you or say if you are disobedient you will be eaten by a lion. Rather, the instruction God gives is very important. We can’t allow people or things to stop us from following what God says. My hope for you is when God shows you instructions for your life, you follow it and live out your destiny for him.

“Then while they were sitting at the table, a command from the Lord came to the old prophet. He cried out to the man of God from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: You have defied the word of the Lord and have disobeyed the command the Lord your God gave you. You came back to this place and ate and drank where he told you not to eat or drink. Because of this, your body will not be buried in the grave of your ancestors.” After the man of God had finished eating and drinking, the old prophet saddled his own donkey for him, and the man of God started off again. But as he was traveling along, a lion came out and killed him. His body lay there on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it.”

1 Kings 13:20-24 NLT
